My Top 10 Marvel Cinematic Universe Films!

Alright, so continuing with the theme of the past 2 articles I wrote, I thought I would write another article on Marvel; this time however, the article is going to be a list… and this list is going to be my top 10 favorite marvel movies. (P.S. these are my opinions and also, just because I like 1 movie more than another doesn’t mean I like the marvel character inside that movie more than I like the other. This list is purely discussing entertainment value, story, and the director’s job). Also, this list isn’t about how comic book accurate the films themselves are (even though that does slightly affect my choices), this list is mainly looking at the film as an entertainment piece.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (released - 2017)

This film to me screams underappreciated. There isn’t a single thing that I don’t like about this film… the sound track is my favorite sound track of any movie (even more than baby driver), the acting is impeccable, the character progression and dialogue is fucking outstanding, and most importantly…. The film feels real. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 could be a real film if it didn’t have Marvel characters, and it could be a film that people highly respect. But since its based in the MCU and on relatively un-known characters, the film gets pushed to the side and disregarded for having any real worth… which is wrong, and so I encourage you to watch this film with an open mind, and watch it not as a Marvel film but as a character study.

2. Spider-man Far from Home (released - 2019)

Now I know there is a lot of debate surrounding this movie and how authentic it is to SPIDERMAN, but honestly I really enjoyed the action scenes in this film and the subtle comedy… also I really LOVED the new suit Spiderman made for himself in this film. Also, also, Mysterio was amazing in this film and was extremely comic-book accurate, so I’m glad they didn’t ruin him, like they easily could have. And so, if you disregard all the hate and critique this film got for being a Spider-man film, then the films overall theme and narrative is very well done and put-together.

3. Spider-man Homecoming (released - 2017)

The first solo Spider-man film in the MCU and I loved it! Tom Holland plays a great Peter Parker/Spider-man, and Michael Keaton plays an outstanding Vulture. A film littered with comic book references (i.e. Spider-man wearing Ben Reilly’s costume)… which means.. Spider-man Homecoming, to me is going to be as close as one can get to producing a real comic book accurate Spiderman (I mean one without Uncle Ben and one with Iron-Man)… but with all the outside factors out of the way.. the way this film portrays Spider-man and Peter Parker is truly remarkable and worthy of praise.

4. Avengers Infinity War (released - 2018)

By far, one of the most hyped Marvel films of all time.. and for good reasons. Marvels Infinity war does it all, it has drama, amazing action scenes, amazing CGI, amazing locations, and an amazing plot. Probably one of the biggest films of all time, Infinity War is a must watch if you are a fan of comic-book films or just action films in general.

5. Thor Ragnarok (released - 2017)

I don’t know why I enjoyed this movie as much as I did… but I did, and if I had to take a guess as to why? It’d probably be because of the movies theme and design, and also the fight scenes. Because while the story wasn’t necessarily that interesting.. the overall feel of the movie and the pacing was amazing and kept me entertained for the entirety of the films running time.

6. Doctor Strange (released - 2016)

I was never a big fan of Doctor Strange as a kid, but this film made me a fan… the design, the story-line and the fight scenes are all so *epic* that I instantly became a fan of Doctor Strange, and am now eagerly awaiting the next Doctor Strange, which is to be released in 2022.

7. Captain America: The First Avenger (released - 2011)

I love the era that this film is set in, and I love that its not afraid to be a patriotic film. This first captain America film wasn’t afraid to be different and stray away from the formula that the Iron Man series and Thor (1) had used. Apart from being different, I just loved the design of this film and the era the film is set in, as mentioned previously, which is why it’s on the list. (ps. This film could be swapped out with Iron Man 1 if you really wanted to make an argument for it, but as it stands right now… I think the Red Skull is a better villain than Iron Monger)

8. Captain America: Civil War (released - 2016)

This is a hot take because to many this is the best Avengers movie all time, but to me the only thing that stands out is Spider-Man and his appearance… Other than that, this film just felt like a let-down to me, when I think about how cool the original Civil War was in the comic books. I also felt like the fight scenes while being *epic* weren’t as *epic* as previous films. I also think the film should have solely focused on the separation between Captain America and Iron Man, rather than include this little mini battle/rivalry between Black Panther and The Winter Solider. Side note *I think Black Panther was extremely cool in this film, but I think they completely butchered his character in his solo film, and I think Black Panther is one of my least favorite “Hollywood” films in a long time*

9. Ant-Man (released - 2015)

I don’t have much to say about this film, other than I just thought this film was a fun film to watch. It has cool fight scenes; it has good acting and it has comedic relief. And to be honest, I think this film would hold a higher-regard in my mind if Ant-Man 2 was never released… because that movie put a horrible taste in my mouth and made me forget Ant-Man and how good it was.

10. Guardians of the Galaxy (released - 2014)

Not as good as the second film in this series, GOTG takes the final spot in my top 10 list. This film much like its offspring is a great film with great action scenes and great character development. A must watch if you haven’t seen it.

Honorable mentions that are based on Marvel Characters but don't take place in the MCU

(Deadpool 2, Logan, Deadpool, The Amazing Spiderman (The one with Garfield)
